چکیده
Abstract. Cyclic volatile methyl siloxanes (cVMSs), which can volatilize into the atmosphere, are active ingredients in widely used consumer products, thus attracting much attention due to their potential environmental risks. While atmosphere cVMSs undergo oxidation, yielding both gaseous and particulate products. The aerosol yields compositions from OH oxidation of four (D3–D6) were determined under low- high-NOx conditions an flow reactor. increased progressively D3 D6, consistent with volatilities molecule weights these cVMSs. NOx restrict formation secondary organic aerosols (SOAs), leading lower SOA than low-NOx conditions, a yield decrease between 0.05–0.30 depending on Ammonium sulfate seeds exhibited minor impacts but significantly D3–D5 at short photochemical ages conditions. mass spectra SOAs showed dependence its chemical exposure. At high exposures equivalent >4 d D4–D6 mainly consisted CxHy CxHyOzSin whereas they primarily contained NmOz, CxHy, CxHyO1, CxHyO>1 contributions evaluated using reported annual production obtained present study. A global cVMS-derived (D4–D6) source strength is estimated be 0.01 Tg yr−1, distributed over major urban centers.

Secondary organic aerosols formed from oxidation of biogenic volatile organic compounds in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California
[1] Biogenic volatile organic compound (BVOC) emissions, such as isoprene and terpenes, can be oxidized to form less volatile carbonyls, acids, and multifunctional oxygenated products that may condense to form secondary organic aerosols (SOA). This research was designed to assess the contribution of oxidized BVOC emissions to SOA in coniferous forests by collecting high-volume particulate sampl...

The kinetics and reaction mechanism for the heterogeneous oxidation of saturated organic aerosols by gas-phase OH radicals were investigated under NO x-free conditions. The reaction of 150 nm diameter Bis(2-ethylhexyl) sebacate (BES) particles with OH was studied as a proxy for chemical aging of atmospheric aerosols containing saturated 5 organic matter. An aerosol reactor flow tube combined wi...

متن کاملThe Organic Aerosols of Titan’s Atmosphere
One of Titan's many characteristics is the presence of a haze that veils its surface. This haze is composed of heavy organic particles and determining the chemical composition of these particles is a primary objective for future probes that would conduct in situ analysis. Meanwhile, solar occultations provide constraints on the optical characteristics of the haze layer. This paper describes sol...
